Maybe so.....

but there were enough pro-ACC alumni from UMCP that wanted to remain in the ACC. Wallace Loh wasn't transparent and pretty much made the decision without the knowledge of many higher ups within the UM system. It wasn't a popular decision among a majority of UMCP fans and alumni when the news came out. If UMCP would've been a private school, it wouldn't have been such a big deal but Loh selfishly had too much say in what should've been a state matter. Loh never talked to Swofford or any ACC officials about UMCP's financial problems within the athletics department. It was known that they were in financial trouble but to my knowledge Loh never asked Swofford for help. Loh was strong-armed by Jim Delany and was asked to keep it a private matter between themselves. Delany knew if news leaked about him going after UMCP that Swofford would've jumped in to try to save the ACC 60 year charter member school. Swofford was caught blindsided and never had a chance to find a solution to help out UMCP financially. Maybe you're right that the ACC wouldn't have done anything or maybe they had a financial plan to get them back into the black? We'll never know what the ACC could've done since they never had the chance.
